Tips for Halloween Car Safety

Tips for halloween car safety

Halloween is one of the most fun nights of the year for children, but it can also be dangerous due to the increased number of pedestrians and cars on the road. According to a study by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, children are four times as likely to get hit by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year. Drivers must be vigilant to ensure the safety of excited trick-or-treaters who may forget the rules of the road or be oblivious to hazards. Follow these tips to make sure kids get themselves and their treats home safely on Halloween:

  • Don’t use your cell phone while driving
  • Stay below the posted speed limit
  • Pay attention to what’s happening on sidewalks and roads
  • Watch for children darting across the street, especially between parked cars. Give them plenty of time to cross, as it’s possible they could trip and fall due to their costume.
  • Be alert when pulling in and out of driveways
  • Check that all lights on your car work properly
  • Do not pass other vehicles stopped on the road
  • Do not drink and drive
  • And if you’re driving to a Halloween party, put your mask on after you park the car
